Ultrasonic Pest ControlWith the concern about protecting the environment ever-growing, more attention is being paid to alternative forms of pest control. Pests from ants to raccoons can be nearly impossible to live with and challenging to get rid of. While there are many chemicals on the market to kill and repel insects, rodents and other pests, many are noxious and poisonous to people, pets and the environment. Electronic pest control devices are marketed to get rid of pests without sacrificing your health or the health of the environment. One of the most common forms of electronic pest control is ultrasonic pest control. As the name implies, ultrasonic pest control devices use ultrasonic sounds to repel unwanted pests from your home and property. Humans can only hear in a range from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. Anything outside that range is in audible to us. Many animals, however, can hear a wider range of frequencies. Ultrasonic pest control devices work on the principle that if you produce a loud noise that only animals can hear, then they will be repelled by it. The jury is still out on whether or not this theory actually works at all in reality, but there has been some anecdotal evidence for and against. Some users have reported that insects and rodents appear to detect the ultrasonic sound emitted by these devices, but don’t seem to be effected by it one way or another. Others suggest that the effects are only temporary and that after a few days the pests get used to the sound and return. Some devices have features that modulate the frequency of the sound to combat this phenomenon, but it is yet to be determined if those features actually help. Most third party studies have concluded that ultrasonic pest control does not offer enough significant control to warrant its use. Not surprisingly, industry proponents, however, have a different story. They claim to have tested and proven the efficacy of their products at least to a certain extent. The only real way to find out is to try it for yourself, but it’s only makes sense to try a product that offers a money back guarantee in case it doesn’t work. There’s no use throwing away good money. Even if ultrasonic pest control systems do not work as well as promised, there may still be a practical application. If rodents or other vermin are even temporarily relocated, that should buy you enough time to seal up any holes to your home that they are entering through. That way, even if they try to return, they won’t be able to gain access. If you do attempt to do this, you should try to figure out how the rodents are getting in before you use the ultrasonic pest control device. You may not have all that much time to seal up your home before the pests return, so be prepared to get moving. Besides their possible ineffectiveness, there are also some other drawbacks to ultrasonic pest control devices that should be highlighted. Ultrasonic devices, while supposedly designed to produce sounds outside the audible range for humans and household pets, can often be detected by pets in your home and in your neighborhood. This can lead to behavioral problems in pets and general emotional distress. Additionally, the high frequency from ultrasonic pest control devices can interfere with electrical equipment in your home. Cordless phones can pick up the sound and it can cause distortion on the line. Hearing aids can also be susceptible to this frequency and muting can occur. Your security system can be compromised when using ultrasonic pest control systems if you use an intruder detection device that also uses ultrasonic technology. The pest control device can confuse the burglar alarm and cause it to malfunction when needed. Ultrasonic pest controls make a lot of promises to free your home of insects and rodents, but you may be disappointed with the results. It’s possible that you will see some positive effect, but it’s doubtful that it will live up to all of its promises. There are other forms of natural pest control that are not harmful environment but may be more effective should you become dissatisfied with ultrasonic pest control products.
